Durov: Apple blocks Telegram update globally after Russia’s request
MOSCOW, May 31 (PRIME) -- Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov explained on Thursday Apple’s ban of updates of the popular messenger on the global scale by its muting in Russia for reluctance to share encryption keys with the country’s Federal Security Service.
“Apple has not allowed Telegram to update its iOS applications all over the world since Russian authorities ordered Apple to delete Telegram from AppStore,” Durov said in his Telegram channel.
The Russian communications watchdog asked Apple earlier in May to erase the Telegram application from App Store in the country and stop sending out its push-messages for local users.
Telegram said earlier that Apple has been blocking new versions of the messenger since the middle of April, the time when a Moscow court ordered connection operators to mute the service nationwide.
